Research

Centred on solar data analysis, extending to ground-based radar observations and science payloads for lunar missions. Members publish the research topics for each direction in the member workspace, and changes appear as soon as they are saved.

Solar Activity & Data Analysis

Coronal loops over an active region observed by SDO/AIA at 171 Å

Solar activity is the laboratory's core focus. We analyse multi-wavelength data from solar observatories in space to follow the evolution of flares, coronal loops and filament eruptions, asking how magnetic energy builds up and is released in the solar atmosphere and how these changes shape the space environment between the Sun and Earth.

Multiwavelength observations of solar flares

Comparing changes across wavelengths to explore energy release during solar flares.

Introduce a research question, observations and methods here. For example: how can solar images and radiation measurements help identify stages in a flare?

Radar Observations

A radar antenna installed on the grounds of an observing station

Lab members take part in radar station observations and research, measuring changes in the near-Earth space environment from the ground and comparing them with solar activity data. The members working in this area will add details of the research in the member workspace.

  • Ground-based radar
  • Near-Earth space environment
  • Observing station

Organising and analysing radar station data

Tracking changes in the near-Earth space environment from ground-based radar measurements.

Describe the radar station's observing goals, data sources and analysis methods here. This placeholder lets members working on radar see how a topic is presented.

Science requirements and design of a lunar instrument payload

Connecting scientific requirements, instrument design and data quality.

Introduce the quantities the payload will measure, the instrument design and current progress here. This placeholder lets members working on lunar payloads see how a topic is presented.
